How matching works
We use proprietary technology to match expenses together based on various data elements, like date, amount, vendor, expense type and location to determine when two items are most likely for the same expense. For example, let's say you have a receipt from ExpenseIt for Starbucks and you paid for it on your corporate card. We will receive the ExpenseIt receipt and create a placeholder expense for you that will appear as Pending Card Charge. Once the credit card transaction arrives (this time frame varies between credit card vendors) we can use all of the data from both the original receipt and the card transaction (date, amount, vendor) to perform a match.
What if a match is not found?
In some cases (for example where the final amount of the card charge is much higher than than the original receipt) we will not find a match. When that happens you can select both items on the report and click the Match link on the right pane of the screen.
